Russian Circles’ chilling banterless set served as an accurate portrayal of what the top tier of said genre should sound like live.

It’s impressive how much variety these guys have been able to extract from such singlular subject matter, and they’re certainly doing it well, but by the same token, there’s only so much beard banter a person can take in one sitting.

A typical Ragan record with one discernible difference – Till Midnight exhibits an incredible strength surpassing that of his past records.

Kyary tugged at the heartstrings of the eclectic audience, leaving all of us both enchanted and a little bit heartbroken as she waved us all goodbye.

It was unsurprising that the outfit’s earlier material was favoured above tracks lifted off Burials, but to say that AFI’s set was simply a nostalgia trip would be a criminal undersell; there’s a good reason they were – and still are – a treasured band in the eyes of many, and the evening’s proceedings were proof enough.
