OKENYOWith ladies behind the decks all night and girl power vibes in the air, VIVID's full venue takeover showcasing women in electronic music was not your average club night. The dancefloor was friendly and the outfits were wild. Punters were keen to go from the moment the doors opened and the evening's talent-packed line-up was ready to deliver.
Sydney's own Okenyo kicked off the night with her high tension, indie-soaked electronica. By the end of her set, the evening had truly taken off and the audience was primed for the night to come.
Triple j's Linda Marigliano's set brought the gallery to fever pitch in her bass-heavy midnight set. The evening's entire audience seemed to pack into the side room to take part in her shoulder to shoulder set. Of course, there was still room for a dance circle at the feet of her decks.
Headliner Uniiqu3 took the main stage at 12.30am. Her hyperactive percussion and wildly inventive vocal mix had the crowd frantic by the end of her set.
She rounded out the evening with a rare moment of chatter in an otherwise relentlessly music heavy evening. "Thanks for supporting women in electronic music," she said, "And thanks for being nice to each other, there is a lot of fucked up shit in the world and safe spaces need to be safe spaces." The crowd cheered in agreement - the evening was a rare reprieve from a dance floor's typical harassment.
FBI's Andy Garvey swooped in to the finish the night. She took the temperature in the room and served up dirty, grime bass lines: perfect fuel for those hoping to see the evening turn into the next morning.
