Album Review: Wireheads - Lightning Ears

20 October 2017 | 11:46 am | Steve Bell

"A most awesome transmission from another (far weirder) dimension."

As with excellent 2016 predecessor Arrive Alive, the fourth album by amorphous Adelaide collective Wireheads was recorded in Washington State with lo-fi legend Calvin Johnson (Beat Happening) and once more sparks flew.

Frontman Dom Trimboli's faux-deadpan, half-spoken vocals sit prominently atop shape-shifting arrays of perfectly ramshackle instrumentation, with tinges of psych, country and pop colouring their default jangly indie rock. Trimboli's nimble wordplay throughout shuffling, piano-led single Indian Pacific Express is an absolute aural delight, while tracks such as Technical Man, Wonderful Wizard and Is Frances Faye God? prove equally enchanting. A most awesome transmission from another (far weirder) dimension.
