This is no soothing painting class - duo Hudson Mohawke and Lunice (TNGHT) are back with a full-energy Matrix futuristic track. If you thought ‘Higher Ground’ was epic, then ‘Acrylics’ will only serve to please.

The track opens with the creepy jewellery box lullaby before immediately exploding into clapping bass and high-intensity trap – there is no time for a breather. Between the Mohawke groove and slickness there are fast-changing rhythms and warped synths characteristic of dance floor filler Lunice.

The music video accompanying the release of the track captures the feel of a TNGHT show – strobe lights, old-school video games and behind-the-scenes DJ preparations. It alternates between black and white and colour footage, in chopped fragments giving you just enough of the live feel but leaving you wanting more.

If the Youtube comments are anything to go by (“this makes me want to beat people up”) then ‘Acrylics’ is going to be a big hit of 2013. Besides, it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new from TNGHT.

The duo are releasing the track before their upcoming US headline tour

For those of you lucky enough to be heading to Coachella this weekend, the debut of this track is sure to get mental. We can only imagine what sort of dirty things will go down when ‘Acrylics’ drops.
