Live Review: WATCH: The Heavy 'What Makes A Good Man?'

UK four peice 'The Heavy' have a gritty new video for their single 'What Makes A Good Man?'. Sit up and take notice!

For those who don't know, THE HEAVY are a 4-peice neo-soul act from Noid, which is a real place near Bath in the UK and not just that weird red rabbit thing that used to steal the fresh-ness from Dominos Pizzas in the 80s. Anyone?

The band have released a video for their new single 'What Makes A Good Man?' and we here at PS HQ have given it a look-see.

The video is a day in the life of a typical scoundrel. Over the course of three and a half minutes, our anti-hero steals a bottle of whiskey, gets into a fight, discovers a dead body, steals a car and bottles a stranger. If THE HEAVY want to know 'What Makes A Good Man?', they should just go ahead and do the opposite of this dude.

I was so gripped by the video, I barely heard the song on first viewing. After subsequent plays however, I found the accompanying tune a soulful, blues-y affair, with that beautiful gospel style harmonizing you'd imagine coming out of a church in Harlem. The lads have been accused of channelling Curtis Mayfield in the past, which is no mean feat for a couple of boys from Southern England.

The band's latest long player 'The Glorious Dead' is out August 20th through Counter Records.
