Shadow's a name thats been bubbling across Australia's underground rap scene for a little while now. From guest appearances on BODYBAGMEDIA's BodyTheBooth and Triple J's Bars of Steel in 2019, Shadow is a name in Aussie grime you can't ignore. A master of the quicker tempos in the scene, his debut EP, Cream, put him on the map with his witty word play, a versatile flow and slick style in writing. Fast forward to 2020 and he brings these key talents and skills again, this time on a more drill oriented beat, bringing together don Huskii and Vinsins to tear it down with him.
Shadow is at home on a drill beat. Hunger and tenacity are the defining feature of the track. 'Russell Coight''s spacious beat works in favour of his delivery. Witty bars referencing the iconic Australian comedic character that gave the song its name are riddled throughout the verses, and combined with his deep cadence, the track is quotable heaven.
The features also deliver. Huskii brings his iconic wordplay and vast vocabulary in the second verse, with Vinsins holding down the back end of the track in his aggressive, barbaric style. The video accompanies the track in style. The trio of rappers enter various bush locations, in front of a beautiful Mercedes and in classic drill style, a carpark. There's no sign of Russell Coight in sight, but I'm sure he'd be bopping in approval.
Shadow's cementing his name as a mainstay in Australian rap. Part of a bubbling scene, his unique edge is sure to give him a leg up amongst the masses of rappers coming through Australia right now.
