Live Review: WATCH: RUFUS 'This Summer'

Sydney indie dance outfit RÜFÜS's clip for 'This Summer' takes a dark perspective of summer nights and celebrations.

Shit, what happened to Sydney's summer? Sydney indie dance outfit RÜFÜS don't know either -- and their clip for 'This Summer', exactly like our disappointing lack of summer, avoids the clichés of the wind whipping up your hairs on endless road trips, and watching the sunset with beers and mates on an isolated beach somewhere.

It's a deliberate move away from associations that are no longer relevant, and, in 'This Summer', endless summer nights are given the spotlight. It's a 'celebration' of the poolside parties where so much happens in muted colours: shadows shimmer and dance in the blue moonlight; an eclectic mix of people mingle on the dark dance floor, while dickheads, like the ones who you are ashamed to admit you know, fight outside; girls purge in sinks by fairy lights; people sit about, smoking and dealing drugs; all this through the eyes of a lone girl who wanders through the party, a true outsider.

It's the darker side of summer which is examined in 'This Summer', and works perfectly with the song's wistful vocals and minimalistic, throbbing beat.
