The comeback of French four-piece PHOENIX with their new studio album has excited the whole world. I’m serious, if you go out and pick up a magazine from Australia, another from the United Kingdom and another from the old U.S of A, I guarantee everyone will have a feature on PHOENIX and their album Bankrupt!.

The first single released from the album ‘Entertainment’ has shown a cleaner, chirper sound coming from the boys, drifting away from the indie- alternative and moving towards pop, not to mention that music video…

PHOENIX recently played Le Grand Journal, who has hosted the likes of MARK RONSON, BLOC PARTY, THE XX and AZEALIA BANKS, and the video of the band playing their track ‘Trying To Be Cool’ has surfaced to our excitement. If you haven’t heard the track yet then we will give you the lowdown because well, it’s pretty great.

The opening of the track is a lovely high synth that reminds you of your Super Mario Nintendo 64 game that you may or may not still play (if you don’t play it, why?). The whole track actually sounds very eighties, but that seems to be the aesthetic of the entire album so if you’ve heard the rest of Bankrupt!, then it definitely wouldn’t surprise you.  The vocals ooze over the synths madness and together, ‘Trying To be Cool’ becomes a pretty catchy track, and played Live here at Le Grand Journal, it’s just a hell of a lot better.

Now that we’ve seen PHOENIX play live again, hopefully an Australian tour will come up soon, even a festival appearance could bring them back down under Big Day Out 2014 anyone?
