LOVER's first original track of the year, 'Starving' provides the perfect intersection between RnB, lounge & chilled electronica with a comforting clip to match.
It's been a huge 12 months for Oliver Kirby AKA LOVER. After debuting last year with 'Eagle To The Prey', he's put out a few more singles, collaborated with the likes of OH BOY, contributed to an alternative version of Evangeline's 'The Strangest Thing' and now, he's coming to us with his first official single of the year with a beautifully composed new clip to match.
Co-produced with long-time collaborator and pal, Tanssi and Gold Coast trio daste, 'Starving' provides the perfect intersection between RnB, lounge and chilled electronica, giving off a lazy sunny day sort of vibe, but in the most comforting way possible.
“I was in Queensland for a show and I got a chance to link up with daste at their home studio. It was the first time we met so we hung out and listened to different tracks and they had a really strong instrumental idea, so we began to put down guitar and vocal riffs," he said.
"I took the idea home with me and showed Tanssi who changed up the drums and took the soundscape into an indie/R&B world. At the same time, the daste boys got their friend Andrew Hodges (of Donny Love) to record the trumpet line you hear at the end of the track and we put together the finale jam outro. It was a really fun, organic process musically.”

The clip evokes that similar feeling of warmth captured in the track, but at the same time, accurately captures this ode to his own personal struggles of pursuing his passion in music. He's telling himself in the track to relax and to not take things too seriously, and the way the clip is shot wholly personifies this notion.
LOVER is filmed lying in the same spot, hands on his chest, headphones on, eyes closed. His jumper and demeanour remains the same, but the world around him changes continuously. Get lost in the clip above while you navigate this beautifully hazy number.
