The band that seems to be on everyone's minds at the moment is LONDON GRAMMAR. And it's not surprising really, especially with the quick fire pace they release their music. Yep, the London 3-piece return with another brilliant single, ‘Wasting My Young Years’.
Let's cut straight to the chase, ‘Wasting My Young Years’ is the first taste of London Grammar’s forthcoming debut album. It follows breakthrough debut single ‘Hey Now’ - a track that earned in excess of 1.1 million plays online. And is equally enchanting, with a huge amount of emotion being brought to the surface through lead vocalist, Hannah Reid's, haunting leads.
Since receiving its first play on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show, ‘Wasting My Young Years’ has gained strong support world wide, with critics such as Huw Stephens and Pitchfork jumping behind it, not to mention the 650,000 plays online it's recived in just two short months it's been online. God damn, the track even entered the UK Singles Chart at #31. The numbers don't lie people!!
The track is partnered by an equally stunning video; shot to a single strip of 35mm film, using 625 pinhole cameras. Just to reiterate, that was, six hundred. AND twenty five. Different. Cameras. The result is a moving and beautifully vintage styled clip, managing to encapsulate all of the raw emotion in the vocals as well as the uniquely downtempo and intimate instrumentation that band are becoming more and more known for, in a visual setting. It also features a heap of stop motion type effects, created by combining all of the cameras, which is extremely cool to watch.
All in all, this is just another notch in the now oversized belt for London Grammar. As it all follows on from the success of their debut EP Metal & Dust, where the band soon joined The xx’s self-curated Night + Day Festival in London, are billed to play Glastonbury, Ibiza Rocks and Bestival; and also featured on Disclosure’s new album.
After being holed up in the studio for the better part of last year, London Grammar's debut album is set for release later this year, via Dew Process/Universal Music Australia. So stay tuned, we'll have the announcement as soon as we hear it!
