Musical imagineers HOLY GHOST have made their entrance into 2016 with a glow of colour and a track called ‘Crime Cutz’. Blurring old school, new school, disco, synth and Rubik's Cube like colours in a video clip best played in a dark room.
Having been making music for the better part of a decade, and mixing for an interesting array of talent from Cut Copy to Katy Perry; New York based Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel have a methodical approach to creating tracks layered with disco beats and nostalgia for old school computer games. The track has that 8-bit style sound (think Street Fighter on Super Nintendo) in addition to vocals from the East Coast Singers Choir, a talented array of voices they found online.
‘Crime Cutz’ goes from an extensive 7 minutes, and yet Holy Ghost keep you entertained with out deviating from the tracks formula too much. The video has an eerie opening, with the sounds of a dark synth controlling the array of colourful lights surrounding what looks like an empty DJ booth and dance floor. It’s kind of like a robot controlled nightclub, coming back to life having been lying dormant for decades.
Holy Ghost’s next EP Crime Cutz EP is due out April 29.
