'Everything Fell Off': The Struggles That Birthed Telenova's New Album, 'The Warning'

Live Review: Gulp 'Vast Space' (Official Video)

Gulp's latest music video blends minimalistic style with an eighties edge.

GULP have a new music video out in the blogoshpere and it's going to bring your attention back over to those fantastic Brits. Guto Pryce and Lindsey Leven have a wonderful project in GULP that provides the world with some very sweet tunes that sound both smooth and rough at the same time.

The smoothness is brought in by Lindsey's high vocals and the roughness by the grungey guitars. There is a large collection of elements that create the music of GULP and with each piece working so well with the others, we are presented with an eclectic sound that is emphasised on their latest track 'Vast Space'.

'Vast Space' seems to take all of the brilliant mechanics of GULP and meld them together to create a track that not only feels daring, but sounds daring as well. The duo have provided us with a very unique sound that on paper, probably shouldn't work. Sweet folky vocals, brooding guitars and twangy keyboards probably belong in their own different genres, however here the vocals tend to twirl around the backbone beat and the brooding guitars provide a sort of pathway for the melody to follow, making sure everything stays in tact. One element seems to compliment the other and everything just works together like the pieces of a bike chain, turning smoothly to keep 'Vast Space' moving.

The music video to 'Vast Space' seems just as eclectic as the piece itself. With vintage animation, a space of pink and blue becomes full of three- dimensional  block pieces that hover around various other objects. We begin with a sculpture of blue marble evolving from a single cube before a separate cube leaves the structure to join more that move like the block in an old Donkey Kong game. Soon larger, multicoloured blocks are introduced with marble figures with glowing eyes, staring into the distance as if they have spotted something that doesn't belong with them. New shapes appear left right and centre with a marble head of Leven hovering and sliding around various objects whilst keeping extremely still.

The entire video is an animation extravaganza that does have a slight minimalistic edge and heavy eighties influence. 'Vast Space' is a very light track and the music clip definitely gives an added boldness that will keep the track travelling across the internet for weeks to come.
