Live Review: Groundislava 'Feel The Heat' ft. Rare Times (Official Video)

Groundislava releases a video for track, 'Feel The Heat' featuring Rare Times.

GROUNDISLAVA has kept listeners on the hook with his recent EP, Feel The Heat, amongst his usual round of remixes.

Whilst we still await the release of the California-based producer's third album, which is said to drop later in the year, Jasper Patterson aka GROUNDISLAVA has released this visual aid for his single, Feel The Heat, which features LA group RARE TIMES.

Teaming up with director Sus Boy, the video both encapsulates and represents GROUNDISLAVA's penchant and trait for melding analog and digital aspects in his work. With the song's slinky melody, discohouse vibe and tinges of ambient melancholy, the clip seems to thematically portray these through the storyline of combat / relationship / nostalgia; think 'love is a battlefield' kind of sentiment here.

Filled with aerial and tracking shots of a metropolitan nightscape, misty forests and pixelated 'memory' flashbacks of female-object-of-affection running through a golden field, there's a part of me that wishes this was done with a slight intent of not being taken too seriously.

Though the concept of the clip was to see the everyday world through modern technology, it just felt a bit...over the top and underwhelming. It may be the overuse of fluorescent green radar detector-esque effects or the medium shots with the vocalist looking at the camera, then looking away (which only reminds me of an overtly dramatic Usher music video), it was just a little too contrived and detracted from the tune.
