New kid on the grime block ELF KID has dropped his debut solo track ‘Golden Boy’. The south London native has cemented his place as an up and coming London MC, by producing a grungy video and quick, but clever, track showing that there is a golden lining to all things chavvy in his neck of the woods.
Elf Kid is known for being apart of the London based crew The Square, and giving a grime edge to Jamie XX’s hit ‘Gosh’. Now, with the support of record label No Hats No Hoods, his solo career is catapulting right around the South London estates the ‘Golden Boy’ video was filmed in, and straight to the Radio One studio with Annie Mac.
The track has a sense of familiarity, heavily sampling pop sensation Amerie’s 2005 hit ‘One Thing’. You can’t deny you liked that track, there was always something magnificent about it, and now anyone who denied it, because pop wasn’t cool enough, can admit to loving it, thanks to Elf Kid.
This song is undeniably clever. Even if you haven’t before been a fan of Grime, something about the way Elf Kid delivers himself, will change the way you will view this style. The video also adds to this feeling as it shows a level of crazy fun, and a glimpse to the life of our generation in South London, a life very different to that of Australian youth.
Oh and Elf Kid is only 18. You can help this budding career out by grabbing ‘Golden Boy’ on iTunes.
