TriviumAs youngsters, Trivium were both admired and lambasted for not only eyeing a place amid metal's upper echelon but also openly expressing said ambition.
Album number eight seems to be another play for the big(ger) leagues; slick and often anthemic in intention, although not sans thrashed-up aggression and fleet-fingered solos. It's a delicate tightrope to walk. Having eschewed harsh vocals entirely on their previous effort, their return rarely overshadows the glistening, soaring hooks of Beyond Oblivion, Endless Night and the somewhat cheesy The Heart From Your Hate. There's few genuine surprises, and arena domination may or may not ensue, but this will at least consolidate Trivium's status as heavy-hitters of some repute.
