"Here, his percussion — sometimes frayed, sometimes clockwork, sometimes just a simple tambourine rattle — cradles her vocals."

Two lines of New Zealand music collide, often sweetly.

Hollie Fullbrook's work as Tiny Ruins is built around the folky purity in her voice — the band guise allowing some shades to be added. Drummer Hamish Kilgour, with guitarist brother David, centred The Clean — one of the lights of the Flying Nun/Dunedin sound of the '90s. Here, his percussion — sometimes frayed, sometimes clockwork, sometimes just a simple tambourine rattle — cradles Fullbrook's vocals. Wandering Aengus is a reflective stroll, Kilgour's restraint fitting. Turn Around adds more textures, even a distant horn. It's a small subtle thing to get lost in.
