"It’s obvious why More Specials lacked the impact of its 1980 predecessor or its lasting legacy."
When More Specials sticks to the band’s ska strengths, it shows more than a few signs of the greatness that had been their self-titled debut just one year earlier. When they try stretching their legs, it’s obvious why More Specials lacked the impact of its 1980 predecessor or its lasting legacy. The Special Edition treatment means a seemingly random collection of extended versions, album/single versions, BBC recordings and a whole lot more than doesn’t add up to very much. Love the original, hate it or feel nothing at all, this won’t change that opinion.
