Album Review: The Meeting Tree - R U A Cop

StarStarStarStar

"It’s only when they fail to take themselves as seriously as their talent demands that we see a stutter"

R U A Cop is crisply engineered fun.

Opener, Don’t Care, is braggadocio disguised as accessibility. First Place, Pt. 1 compels. It’s only when they fail to take themselves as seriously as their talent demands that we see a stutter. “Hey kids… I’m trying to get high and drunk” detracts from the excellence of its sonic surroundings. I mean, if Joyride can croon, “boy, I fucked your girlfriend (and) given the chance I would do it again,” exhibiting charisma, dismissiveness and genuine menace all at once over a beat Raph’s crafted, who needs jokes?
