The Kills take on Fleetwood Mac. They make it grimy and atmospheric and pretty pretty great.
THE KILLS cover Fleetwood Mac for the LP A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac. Joining contemporaries Lykke Li, Best Coast and Karen Elson in paying homage to one band that was kind of a big deal. This dark and gritty take on the original makes for good Tuesday afternoon listening. I know we're enjoying it. We're not sure what we're really meant to say about the powerful vocals of Alison Mosshart or the growling guitar.
What we suspect is that this is a cover coming straight from the urban decay in the States' metropolitan areas. It springs forth from the dark and dank to give one a mental image of uncertainty, maybe even dread. Every instrument, from firm drums to a chilling rhythm guitar, adds to this morbid texture.
I'm going to say that this song slithers. It slithers right up inside you. It shakes one to their dark and dirty core. It's a song of it's own, as if from another world to that of the original. We like that. We like that a lot.
