The High Learys
Fearlessly retro, there's still an individual flavour to The High Learys' '60s bubblegum-pop. Armed with Mod-style mop-tops, catchy, organ-augmented riffs and an infectious go-go beat, you half expect a squadron of hard-enamel Vespa scooters to vroom by in the background in homage to Quadrophenia, such is the authenticity of their sound. There's still room for original ideas though, particularly on the two freakbeat instrumentals on this full-bodied LP that crams ten finely cropped nuggets into 25 energy-filled minutes.
