Live Review: BIGSOUND Live: The Furrs

10 September 2014 | 9:32 pm | Ben Marnane

But fuck it, they're doing a fine job

Looking far too fresh-faced to be channelling these old school vibes, The Furrs are in the process of kicking BIGSOUND off and you couldn't hope for a better start.

It's early in the night and the half-full Oh Hello! Is being smashed by a rollicking sound of beautifully messy guitars, powerhouse drums and driving bass. Accompanied by members of Moses Gunn Collective, the two-piece successfully blend guitar-heavy breaks with undistinguished vocals that suit the style perfectly.

The room is now almost full and although we're being hit by an impressive wall of sound, it's fair to say the duo could use a couple more years of ripening. They look great, sound great and embody everything that is rock'n'roll but haven't yet reached the musical potential that is within such close reach... But fuck it, they're doing a fine job.

Rock on.
