It's not often a show can combine so many elements, cross genre lines and still succeed in pleasing both die-hard fan and new initiate, but The Empire Strips Back managed both with ease. Expanded and refreshed to take advantage of the large theatre space, there were many numbers featuring props and large scale replicas, including Luke's speeder. The tauntaun is eviscerated during the first number, and a grotesque Jabba The Hutt gets an appropriate comeuppance from Princess Leia in the metal bikini that's fuelled the fantasies of geeky teenage boys since 1983.
