"A few technical problems meant the band had to improvise and use an iPhone for their synthesisers."
MC Magnus Danger Magnus got the atmosphere buzzing in the Rosemount's main room, with the crowd ready to see who would win the grand prize of $10,000 in The Big Splash Grand Final.
Jacob Diamond was first up, no doubt a crowd favourite, opening with The Docks. Who Do We Fight showcased Diamond's incredible vocals, hitting all the right notes. Diamond's sound was infectious, a mix of groovy alternative sound with a hint of bohemia as he and his band covered Turn To Stone by ELO.
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets were out of this world with their hypnotic sound, sending the room into a craze. If the crowd wasn't moshing, they were swaying to the rhythm and moving their heads like wild bobble-heads. Cornflake and Marmalade March looked like they took the crowd on a high — pretty much songs one could get stoned to.
Shit Narnia — the name pretty much says it all. Vocally is wasn't the best, however lyrically it was very interesting. Their punk-post hardcore sound saved them in Welcome To The New LA.

The High Learys sounded like we were stepping back into age of The Beatles, with Jamie Turner's appearance and their unique sound. Between guitar riffs and Turner's magical voice, the crowd lapped up the psych-rock feel. Clear My Mind ended the set, filling the room with anticipation as the judges started to decide who was to be crowned winner.
With the judges deliberating upstairs, Apollo's Son kept the crowd going. A few technical problems meant the band had to improvise and use an iPhone for their synthesisers. Their post-apocalyptic neo-psychedelic sound was spellbinding in Eyes. Moana joined the guys on stage for the set, her vocals beautiful.
The night came to a close with Magnus taking the stage to announce the winner. First place was awarded to Jacob Diamond, who took home $10,000 courtesy of The Big Splash founder Maria Florides. A very well-deserved win; hopefully we'll hear more from Diamond. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets won second place with $2,000 worth of recording time with Dave Parkin at Blackbird Sound Studios. The High Learys came third and Shit Narnia fourth.
