Album Review: T-Pain - Happy Hour: The Greatest Hits

StarStarStarStar

Pain’s era has passed. Remember the good times.

More T-Pain T-Pain Profile

In the naughts T-Pain was a hit machine churning out infectious, Auto-Tuned chart-toppers.

Suddenly, at around the time of his and Lonely Island’s brutal self-parody I’m On A Boat and Jay Z’s D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune), T-Pain became a tragi-comic figure, a bullying victim trying to laugh it off. This compilation – punctuated by the still stunning Buy U A Drank and 5 O’Clock – serves as a reminder it wasn’t always this way. New single, Drankin’ Patna, lacking the effervescence of its more successful predecessors, all but confirms Pain’s era has passed. Remember the good times.
