Compared to their recent collaborative albums, Kannon is a stripped down, back to basics work, with Sunn O)))'s infamous avalanche-like riffs very much at the fore.
It harks back to their debut OO Void arguably more than anything they've released since, but it's also a monument as to how much they've developed, with subtle use of technology from the likes of Aussie noise guru Oren Ambarchi. The elephant-lunged vocals of Attila Csihar dominate throughout and unnerve on the closing Kannon 3, which builds dramatically and degenerates into a blood boiling miasma.
