"Overall there is a notable lack of risk, which makes the album feel too safe."

Steve Mason has returned with his third solo LP, a reflective and introspective ensemble full of the familiar acoustic jams he has built his reputation upon.

Mostly optimistic and accessible, it was recorded following a recent move to the sunny shores of Brighton over the course of six weeks, mid-way through 2015. There are some interesting moments, such as the dreamy Through My Window, and electronica-laden Words In My Head but overall there is a notable lack of risk, which makes the album feel too safe. Fans of his Beta Band days will be disappointed that the music never really hits the heights of other Mason-penned classics such as Dry The Rain and Assessment, but it's worth a look if you are a fan of his earlier solo stuff.
