Opener Don’t Get Me Started is a riveting and electric track that sets the rest of the release up for a marathon of melodic madness that’s overrun with a characteristic brightness. Missing Me is stripped back with acoustic guitars brought to the foreground before Jackson takes a sharp left turn into the titular track, Midnight Love, which is punctuated with punk undertones.
Jackson lays herself out wholly and completely in Midnight Love, Vol 2 – through personal stories of love and loss, we find out about what gets her aggravated, her fun side, and about her at her most vulnerable. That’s what makes this such a great listen. She manages to remain succinct and cohesive through a menagerie of styles and influences, laying it bare for all to see and leaving the listener wanting to know her better.
