Album Review: Siv Jakobsen - The Nordic Mellow

28 August 2017 | 11:30 am | Lewis Isaacs

"An album that stands out for its simplicity."

Norway's Siv Jakobsen is not one for making a big and bold sound on her debut The Nordic Mellow. Rather, the singer-songwriter brings a stripped-back style on the ten-track release.

With airy vocals and a sparse accompaniment of finger-picked guitars, piano and strings, Jakobsen switches the focus to her songwriting skills over production values. Less is often more when it comes to making an impact.

Album highlight Like I Use To is a ballad that builds in sound while Space is a poignant and sweet closer to an album that stands out for its simplicity.
