Simon Dodd's play centres on a couple of apparent unfortunate amnesiacs who choose the wrong door when looking for the toilet and find themselves on a stage instead. Now trapped, they feel compelled to perform though they have absolutely no idea what's going on. Or do they? The result is an absurdist comedy which manages to juxtapose basic toilet humour with some deep philosophical issues, with the existentialist overtones perfectly summarised in an onstage toast “to meaninglessness”. The lines are appropriately nonchalantly delivered, which serves to intensify the audience's joint confusion at their plight. Humour doesn't come much more thought-provoking.
