Nervous and not sure what to expect, one might wonder what to make of a show entitled Silence Of The Labia. Written and presented by Simone Springer, with assistance from the lovely Miss Lady V, the show has fingers in both comedy and cabaret pies.
Springer warms the crowd with a selection of jokes about her own dating life, checkered with side-splitting anecdotes about some of her less than ideal encounters.
The show then moves to more of a variety-style performance piece, with just about a little bit of everything. From corny quiz rounds to an interactive game of 'label the female anatomy', the audience was treated to a literal show and tell from every angle possible of Miss Lady V’s lady v.
Nothing says body positivity and female empowerment like googly eyes on a woman’s nether bits, a bit delivered with such easy confidence it quickly raises the uneasy question, "What else can they throw at us?" A show like this confronts the uncomfortable truth of women’s oversexualisation in society today and works hard to break down that barrier in just an hour - an impressive feat for Springer.
This one was not for the faint-hearted – but for those with an open mind and a good sense of humour, the show delivers in spades.
