Album Review: Sampa The Great - HERoes Act 2

One might expect a victory lap on an EP with a name like HERoes Act 2 — especially after a year like the one Sampa The Great has had.

But this is not the case. HERoes 2 is arguably denser, more agile and wonderfully stranger than HERoes. Gone is the first EP's flowing cape and hawkish eyes, Heroes Act 2 is darker, grimier and stranger. On The Plug, Sampa's bars race against a slow moving avalanche of rolling beats, showing off both her talents as an MC and her eye for setting and nuance.
