Those in search of gritty social drama, hyper-realism and a considered thoughtful take on modern life and the ills besetting us would do well to seek entertainment elsewhere.
Instead Sammy J And Randy Land offers a surreal romp through a modern bloke's mindset and what happens when reach exceeds grasp. Or more simply, how not to create and run a theme park.
Sammy J who wants to build a fun, safe, family-friendly environment with A J In The Life, one-man musical headline act (starring the J-man, Australia's answer to Hugh Jackman) complete with frilly, puffy shirts, maracas and gleeful hip wiggling.
Randy prefers an interactive, stimulating and above all, funny experience featuring velociraptors, an attack-trained orca, and a Ferris wheel that is almost three kilometres high (on a clear day you can see Noumea). In order to minimise potential blood-baths, Randy suggests keeping the raptors out of the petting zoo.
These diverging visions underpin the duo's wrestle for creative control, the outcome of which culminates in several near-death/actual death (perspective-dependent) climaxes. Pun intended.
Despite the occasional foray into audience participation more akin to a Christmas panto, the odd prop malfunction and the rogering of a page boy, the show explores loyalty and friendship: may we all have a mate who'll put ice on our wang.
