Ron Sexmith’s 14th studio album is a sunny portrait of bliss.

It’s relieving that the album delves into shades of happiness, considering the long overdue success the Canadian singer-songwriter deserves. Yet to achieve commercial breakthrough since his 1991 debut album, Sexsmith has never stopped giving us his trademark gentle voice and crafted lyricism. Carousel One has all the usual nostalgic melancholy found on his other records, but is decidedly lighter than any previous thanks to tracks like Sure As The Sky and Sun’s Coming Out. It’s full of enough pleasant variations to keep things interesting.
