In a live setting, Rival Fire are an excellent alt-rock act who really bring the fun when they play.
Now on this, their debut album, they really wind out and show us what they can do. And it's mightily impressive.
The first thing that hits the listener is the sheer variety on display here, track to track. There's the up-tempo alt-rock of opener Slave, the industrial grind of Riot and the piano-based balladry of Dreams. And that's just the first three tunes. There is so much more going on besides.
War is a real eye-opener, and one of many must-have Aussie releases of this year.
