Album Review: Rita Satch - Rita Satch

The neo-soul voice with retro longing in its keening tends towards the 'Yes, we're still looking for a new Amy' default – which is a bit of shame. This, the Melbourne singer's second EP, has Satch becoming more an honest and direct songwriter unashamedly expressing her need in tunes like Reach For You, but the ringing-and-handclapping Mark Ronson-aping production perhaps undermines her own talent. Ditto Heartbreaker, where MC Rhyno's Cockney-accented interjections probably don't help the cause. The voice and talent could be something, perhaps if those directing her let her have her own way rather than theirs.
