"Perhaps a bit more southern rock grit than what's gone since."
If you came in late — if you can consider 1975 as 'late' — the 'Crutch were the band that eventually morphed into Tom Petty's Heartbreakers as members came and went.
Petty and other main creative input, Tom Leadon, reconnected in 2007, got (most) of the old band back together, and made something a little more inward than the sweeping vistas of The Heartbreakers' then currency. This second go-round follows much the same track, songs like Trailer with perhaps a bit more southern rock grit than what's gone since. A couple of tracks are bit clunky, but Petty's Dylan-esque reflections like I Forgive It All tends to allow you to do just that.
