Vauxhall And I could almost qualify as Morrissey's “happy” album. Well, not so much happy, more “light grey”, a peacefully resigned statement to that British sense of quiet desperation. His morose tendencies are sweetly counterbalanced by some of his most gorgeously brooding instrumentation, as even tracks like Lifeguard Sleeping, Girl Drowning are beautifully tuned out with a soft, comfy edge around them. Vauxhall And I celebrates its 20th anniversary with a re-release that includes a spunky, hour-long disc of a previously unreleased live performance Mozza-philes will avidly devour.
