Miley Cyrus gives fans a sexed-up 'Adventure Time' in Perth.
Watching Miley Cyrus perform live is like watching Adventure Time, only with more sexual innuendo. It’s weird, wacky, unpredictable and entertaining.
Warming up the ‘not-so-innocent’ young girl crowd (ten-year-olds wear bras as tops to concerts these days) was New York’s electronic trio Lolawolf who have been creating a buzz on the indie scene. Frontwoman Zoe Kravitz spat some hip hop rhymes and popped her booty on a bare-stripped stage, a set-up which would’ve worked well in a club gig but didn’t seem to grab the attention of the dolled-up ladies, cross-dressers, boyfriends and parents who had already found their seats.
Then it was time. A giant projection of Miley Cyrus’s face appeared on the stage’s backdrop screen and the teenage screams shrilled through. The mouth/part of the screen of Cyrus projected face opened and a giant 3D tongue curled down onto the stage. Donning orange spandex and giant sneakers, Cyrus slid down the tongue slide and launched into 4x4 off her fourth studio record and the evening’s celebration, Bangerz. The lyric “I’m a female rebel” from the track which Alt-J sampled in their track Hunger Of The Pine was no understatement. There was plenty of swearing, twerking and vagina-stroking for all to jaw-drop to or, as Cyrus said, “get wet” to. #GetItRight saw a dancing orgy take place on a giant bed with projections of strange cartoons, baked beans, sour-straps, flying pigs, Cyrus’s head on a chicken and many more stoner-loving images flashing up on the big screen.
Just in case you hadn’t already experienced a sensory overload, a gold ‘pimp-my-ride’ car appeared with wads of bills flying out of the exhaust during Love Money Party and then a giant pink furry animal puppet which looked like Big Bird took over for My Darlin’. But, before that, Cyrus got personal with the crowd, thanking her fans and the tour crew for all the love; it was an odd choice to crack open a D&M after the second song but everyone seemed thrilled. Things heated up again when Cyrus asked the crowd to “make out with someone you’re here with for the night” and showed all the smooches and tongue-scrambling on the big screen. A cover of The Beatles’ Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds followed before Etta James’ I’ll Take Care Of You and popular Jolene.
But, who could forget the oversized implant cushion asses which all the dancers donned and the gigantic swinging hot-dog which Cyrus exited the show on, preaching, “If anyone tells you anything other than what I’m telling you right now, you can tell them to suck a dick and go fuck themselves.” Wrecking Ball and Party In The USA were obvious encore choices and then, after smiling and goofing around with some disgusting fake teeth, she was gone and the rainbow-coloured words “Thanks for cumming” glistened on the big screen. No, thank you for cumming, Miley.
