"...concentrates on the Frenchman's sometimes-questionable dealings with the opposite sex."
This is the fourth volume of the former Bad Seed's ongoing celebration and investigation of that most Gallic of pop musicians, the supremely dissolute and cigarette-dangling Serge Gainsbourg.
As the title suggests, this one concentrates on the Frenchman's sometimes-questionable dealings with the opposite sex — from cryptic romanticism to sleazy disregard. Harvey has his own little black book of female guest vocalists to provide an often-required other voice, including locals such as Jess Ribeiro and Sophia Brous. He also puts a different spin on a few things, notably taking Gainsbourg's best-known piece, the breathy soft porn of Je T'aime, outside his homeland and having it delivered in German just to confuse the issue.
