Mel Buttle's new show Dog Bitch, despite the confronting name, is the definition of good, solid fun. The Brisbane local is a beacon of happiness as she bounds onto the Visy Theatre stage. As you could probably tell, this one is for anyone that has ever called a dog a pupper, woofer or long boi, as Buttle sails through a number of delightful anecdotes mostly centred around her pup, Ruby.
Buttle's local references land brilliantly and her timing is on-point, something that becomes more apparent when an audience member pipes up during a bit about her dad's new partner. Although this throws the comedian off, running time-wise, it's worth it to see Buttle masterfully navigate her way through some hilarious improvisation, only to seamlessly get right back on track.
It's almost impossible to not like Buttle as she embodies the relatable everywoman. And still head along if you're a cat lover, because, as Buttle rightly points out, there's enough love in the world for both animals.
