Matt Okine begins his show by telling the audience that tonight’s venue, the Victoria Hotel, is the place he stayed when he first visited Melbourne as an 18 year old competing in RAW Comedy.

It’s an early ice breaker and unintentionally serves as a metaphor for the comedy to come, which is remarkably raw and honest, but also shines light on his career trajectory. He pours out his soul about a failed relationship, constantly dealing with criticism and making sacrifices, but balances it by relishing the opportunities that come through being a breakfast radio host, particularly the regular pay check.

It’s refreshingly candid and a rare glimpse into his life outside of the 6-9am shift.
