Album Review: Malachai - Beyond Ugly

"It doesn’t necessarily create groundbreaking sounds as intended."

The third album in their vaguely related 'Ugly' series sees the Bristol duo continue with their experimental studio work in the guise of a band. Vocalist Gee Ealey and producer Scott Hendy, aka Malachai, use what could be considered traditional hip hop production techniques or styles to make very different sounding tunes. The problem is that while the idea of making a garage-rock song out of samples and sequencing as on Sweet Flower is a very interesting process, it doesn't necessarily create groundbreaking sounds as intended.
