Album Review: Mahalia Barnes & The Soulmates - Ooh Yea! – The Betty Davis Songbook

This is what loud pop music is supposed to sound like: confronting and passionate but also crisp and approachable.

If I’m In Luck I Might Get Picked Up must be one of the greatest song titles we’ve heard, though at five-and-a-half minutes it asks a little much of its endearing moniker. Game Is My Middle Name makes the most of our host’s joie de vivre. In The Meantime swings gently and drips with nostalgia for Motown. With a genuine sense of fun, here’s something to cherish.
