"Madonna Arms is a strong show with great moments; definitely worth a visit."
Presented by I'm Trying To Kiss You and co-presented with Arts House, Madonna Arms is an absurd, fun show. A provocative exploration of how power, strength and body image permeate through modern gender roles, the show is structured around a series of vignettes, the performance combining impressive lighting and video effects streamed onto three onstage screens. The latter is particularly well executed, combining the live onstage action with varied lo-fi green screen backgrounds to create craptastic goodness. One criticism, however, is the excessive use of expletives throughout. While its intention is to be confronting, its delivery quickly becomes tired and for all intents and purposes is a lazy device to shock audiences. This is a shame because it detracts from the overall message and flow. Nevertheless, Madonna Arms is a strong show with great moments; definitely worth a visit.
