"These long-haired beauties looked like they had just stepped out of the '60s, but write songs with forward-thinking melodies and groovy, psychedelic breakdowns."
Tonight's instalment of Rolling Stone's Live Lodge and Jack Daniel's Future Legends Project showcased bands that possessed talent beyond their collective years.
Bursting onto the stage, Sydney's soulful duo Polish Club powered through their set, with punters hanging off every howling note Novak produced. They played fast and loud, with trashing drums and guitar tones so brash and bluesy that our ears couldn't keep up with the intricacy. The duo finished the set with cracker tune Able.
Following the dynamic duo were rock four-piece CREO who showcased their versatility with a set traversing heavy rock in the form of broody, guitar breakdowns and gravelly vocals that resolved to sweet, soaring notes, then in came indie-pop ditty Afterglow. Their unapologetic guitar music really hit home and CREO finished a cover of Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again by The Angels.
Melbourne's Lurch & Chief had to battle for our love as, weirdly, crowd numbers started dropping off during their set. This appeared to be unrelated to the brilliant set the band pumped out, however, and did not waver their confidence as they kicked off with Fading Out.

These long-haired beauties looked like they had just stepped out of the '60s, but write songs with forward-thinking melodies and groovy, psychedelic breakdowns — more of which we'll hopefully hear on their upcoming album. Oldie We Are The Same was aired early in the set, showcasing the powerful-but-contrasting interplay of vocals that make their songs so unique and fresh. They dedicated a cover of Air's Sexy Boy to 'gorgeous' Newtown, following it up with an infectious rendition of On Your Own.
The driving rhythm of Mother/Father really stuck a chord and stomper Keep It Together closed out the set nicely.
