Lupe Fiasco is now free from the label troubles that have plagued him throughout his career.

But although he was still in the thick of these issues at the time, 2015's Tetsuo & Youth was a masterwork; a concept album every bit as intelligent and confronting as his debut. On his own in 2017, Fiasco seems unsure about where he wants to go next. True, DROGAS Light is a "prequel" album and some of the songs are admittedly outtakes. However, the mix of uninspired trap beats, sterile, radio-friendly songs (why does he still feel the need to make these?) and other miscellany leave you wondering where he's at.
