Live Review: London Topaz isn't the kind of beat to 'Let You Go'

A relative newcomer to our ears, LONDON TOPAZ is paving a way down Melbourne’s streets, and if the latest offering ‘Let You Go’ featuring vocalist JANEVA is anything to go by, those streets may soon be the insane pathways of the world’s stage.

‘Let You Go’ opens with, and features throughout, whale sounds which is both really clever and really cool. Personally I find whale sounds peaceful, beautifully eerie and completely mysterious. Maybe that is the point of featuring such a sound in this track. London Topaz explains the track is about letting go of the past, and focusing on the power of now. It’s about breaking down mental barriers and becoming a part of the beauty of simplicity and understanding how rewarding peace can become.

Inspired by the sounds created by producer Ryan Hemsworth, ‘Let You Go’ is a vocal driven piece of house music. Janeva provides the perfect vocals for the lyrics, and energy of the track. It’s quite a minimalistic sound with simple but effective percussion and keyboard. Coming back to those whale sounds, it essentially makes it something genuinely unique, amongst the very full world of Melbourne’s house music talent.
