Melbourne singer-songwriter, WOODES, is gearing up to release her debut solo EP, to follow the collaborative packet of songs she worked on with fellow artist, Elkkle. Renowned for her otherworldly approach in the way she executes her songwriting, the first taste of the EP, 'Daggers & Knives' is a classic example of this lady's craft.
Expanding the room with her large range, Woodes peaks new heights with her angelic vocal arrangement, elevating us before it all spills out onto a carpet, staining whispers of defeated love. Expressing victimisation of a two-timing felon, it would appear that the boppy, blunt beats translate deceivingly to the lyricism, a they join a team of light vocal samples and the cool harmonic breeze permeating the chorus.
Upon speculation though, we learn that Woodes has twisted the arm of the situation; one-upping the negligence of a former lover with self-worth and a positive outlook. A song of reverence for the soul, despite the sore, stabbed back responsible of a member no longer primal in one's life, Woodes reflects on the good that can stem from a negative situation; and pulls it off beautifully.
'Daggers & Knives' was performed, written and produced by Woodes, with mixing and mastering polished off by Kllo's, Simon Lam. It's the first taste of her debut solo EP, to be available sometime in 2016.
