Live Review: Wave Racer releases new track, 'What Are We Waiting For?’ and announces first headline shows in 5 years

Wave Racer is back releasing both a hot new single and announcing his first headline shows since his iconic, 2015 'Flash Drive Tour'.

Contemporary Australian electronic music pioneer Wave Racer is back today with some extremely exciting news, releasing both a hot new single and announcing his first headline shows since his iconic, 2015 'Flash Drive Tour' . The track follows closely off the back of recent highly acclaimed single ‘Left Behind’ and a standout performance on Porter Robinson's Secret Sky Digital Festival.

The track is pretty stunning. It's a touch more minimal and refined than what we'd expect from the extremely talented producer, you could almost say he is flexing his creative restraint. It features a dense, noisey drum groove, creating a sonically interesting and ever growing instrumental track. It's sound design at it's finest, filled densely with unique textures, euphoria and soundscapes. The new sound is reflected in the creative process of the track. On 'What Are We Waiting For?'s creation, he states, "This is the result of a creative exercise involving deliberate restriction - a proof of concept to prioritise process over materials. I limited my sound sources so I would have to be more creative with how I used them, kind of like playing a guitar with only 2 strings instead of 6. It forced me to produce the music in a very different way to normal. Every drum sound was crafted from the same tiny piece of non-musical noise."

"Composing this ended up challenging my own hesitations surrounding my creative process, hence the title. More broadly, it’s just a really sonically interesting instrumental track, I guess like a study in sound design process, which was super helpful for me.”

In terms of the tour, Wave Racer will be joined by a full band for the performances. It's all gong down at The Lansdowne in Sydney on July 9 (supported by Micra and Tasker) and The Northcote in Melbourne on July 15 (supported by Micra and Zeal), tickets are on sale now.
