Sydney's UPSIDEDOWNHEAD quickly caught our attention with the release of his stellar debut EP, complex, just last year. Spanning seven tracks, the EP saw him explore left-of-centre electronic music within a pop framework, enlisting an all-star cast of collaborators that span a variety of sounds and feels across the record.
He's quickly bolstered himself a producer to watch, with his songwriting and sonic choices continuing to place him in a league of his own. He's today returned with a new single titled 'circulate'. He's teamed up with electronic duo PLGRMS for this pulsing, infectious anthem that we're excited to be premiering today!
'circulate' is about finding a way to be okay with someone letting go. It's about acceptance and renewal, finding ways to break out of cycles. It captures that fear you realise you have when finally choosing to let go.

The track itself came out of a session upsidedownhead did with PLGRMS. They'd originally written another track titled 'animal', which didn't feel right to him. There were a few phrases and words that stuck out to him, so after a little bit of chopping, changing and reworking, 'circulate' was born.
It's a wonderland of synths, careful vocal melodies and a soundscape that ebbs and flows with precision.
Of the track, upsidedownhead said “It's about constantly walking in circles in your mind and trying to keep up with your thoughts about someone. You finally choose to let go and embrace them for who they are, but instead of completely letting go… you always hold on to the little bit of control out of fear.”
